It has been quite some time since my last post. Life has been a bit crazy busy lately! To recap two weekends ago, I was able to spend time with my three best friends from college in Chicago. It was an enriching time of fellowship, sharing, wine, shopping, and laughter. I just wished we all lived closer. Here are a few pictures:

Of course we needed the traditional "holding Katie" picture

Yummy Flat Top!

I even tried a 4 course Lebanese meal!

This past weekend we had Kenny and Jenny over for dinner and pumpkin carving. I made Chicken Enchilada Soup (yum), and we had a blast hearing about their upcoming nuptials among other things. Of course Corey had his annual block M pumpkin, and I decided to go with a "dead" pumpkin per the X's for eyes.

Corey and I also finished all the seasons of Cheers. As sad it this may be, I felt like a little chapter in my life ended. I'll miss the gang at Cheers! Now on to Fraiser...

On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending a baby shower for a lady who used to be in our couples small group (before they moved to St. Louis). Niki looks absolutely stunning! It was fabulous to celebrate her, as well as spend time traveling with Alicia. And yes, we did hit up the outlet mall on the way home :)

Hello cute cookie

A gal in my women's Bible Study inspired me to begin my gratitude lists again. I used to write them to a friend/accountability partner in college, and it is time to revive the habit! And wouldn't you know it, our pastor preached partly (enough alliteration?) on gratitude this Sunday. The part that convicted me was "how often do we give thanks for things we have rather than thanking/praising the one who all the gifts are from?" To listen to the entire message, click here

To end this on a silly note, tomorrow I'm going to be dressed up in a bacon outfit while my co-worker is going to be dressed up as eggs. I'm pumped :) Here's to eating candy (no worries, still exercising) and seeing all the fun Halloween outfits tomorrow!

*Note: please disregard the poor quality of photos from my phone or Facebook!

Fall Giveaway!

I've been a little MIA lately...my apologies!

I plan to blog soon with Chicago and family updates, but for now you get to hear about a fun giveaway!

A friend from Taylor is hosting a giveaway with Stormy at Life's a Dance.

The giveaway is 2 fun infinity scarves and a starbucks gift card...who wouldn't want to win that?!

Although Katie and I hadn't talked much since being PA's (what the rest of the world knows as RA) in college, we were somehow reconnected through the blog land.

She may not realize it, but I have been incredibly encouraged by her vulnerability about life, as well as inspired by her crafts, updates about life, and news about her social work life.

(Yay, social workers unite!)

Anywho, I encourage you to check out the giveaway, but more importantly, check out Katie's blog.

Hope you enjoy her as much as I do!

My husband, Corey, works for the IRS.

Go ahead, make that face or remark about  how you don't want him to find you.

Granted, no one wants to receive a letter from the IRS, but they actually try to work with you if it was an honest mistake.

Needless to say, Corey does not have an easy job. Most people stereotype or hate him before meeting him.

But you know what? I'm so proud of him!

Today his boss told him that she was very impressed at his work (details I don't need to go in to). I love hearing him obtain compliments from superiors because so often he is under valued (in my opinion).

Thankfully, his boss is the most sarcastic person on the planet, so he also gets laughs too :)

Thinking about Corey and his job reminds me of a few things in my own life:

1. How am I showing others that they have value?
2. Have I been judging people before really knowing them?
3. What simple steps can I take to show others (Corey, family, co-workers, friends, students) that I appreciate them?

Now here's to living those out in every day life...

Weekend Fun

Hooray for the weekend!

We have some fun things planned despite the rain. Last night we went to our high school homecoming football game. We enjoyed reminiscing about our early dating years, watching football (and the amazing half time show), and ending the night with Modern Family and Cheers.

We also sat by this cutie (3 year old Owen) at the game. He was insistent at getting a super close-up picture. He was such a hoot!

It's the little things in life that also remind me to be thankful...like a fireplace...

Today I'm having some girlfriends over for lunch, and then some other friends are coming over for dinner/games. I've worked 19 days in a row now, so it is absolutely fabulous having a day off today!

Tomorrow after church I'm working at Fossil, going to small group, and then getting pumped for CHICAGO! I leave on Friday, and boy am I stoked. I'm going to see my college roommate and two other of my close college ladies.

And as a bonus, the weekend after Chicago I'm heading to Birmingham, MI to attend a baby shower of a dear friend and then hitting up the outlet malls. I'm grateful to be able to go on these mini trips :)

Hope you're able to enjoy time with friends as well!

ps Is it crazy that I'm already getting excited for the Christmas season?

Hi friends!

Not much of an update on this end. Yes, I've still been running! Not as much as I'd hoped, but more than before. I'm able to exercise 3-4 times a week thus far. Today I tried to listen to a reading of the Bible for the New Testament Challenge while running (normally I don't run with any devices), and it was just strange. Maybe it's because the voice is British.

Then I tried to finish the passage while walking Maggie.

Poor choice.

I totally missed the last 10 minutes because I was preoccupied by here ADHD-like behaviors.

But anywho, I've been getting a lot more rest this week which I've been extremely grateful for. Just finishing up some easy peasy crafts like this one below...

I want to make the mantle prettier (leaves and pumpkins), but Luna always finds a way to make sure the decorations end up on the floor. We'll see how that goes for Christmas...

I've also been figuring out what cruise Corey and I want to take with one of fav couple friends. We are super pumped for a vacation and determined to take one next year. We're hoping to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise Christmas break 2013 since we both always have/take it off. I've never been on a cruise, so this is extra exciting to plan! If I didn't have upcoming Chicago, outlet mall and anniversary trips planned, I would ask I could leave now...

(Note: I'm grateful we have the opportunity to go on any trips!)

Since this post is already random, I'm going to end with a few recipes that I've tried and enjoyed lately. Yes, I've been cooking! Yes, it's still me! You'll believe me when I say it's only been a few nights a week. Corey has been pleased :)

Have a fabulous night!

Move it!

Truth be told, my exercise habits have been almost non-existent lately. Say what?! Yes, it's for real.

I decided that I need to GET MY BUTT IN MOTION.

I train for Grand Rapids Riverbank Run every year with my brother, and last year went so poorly that we only did the 5k. (Every year we train for the 10K and one year we did the 25K).

My brother has been doing an AWESOME job at exercising, eating healthy, and losing weight.

So I emailed him for some accountability.

I need it with my spiritual life, so I guess I need it for exercising too. Ironically, Corey lifts weights religiously--but sadly, I've gotten out of that habit too.

So I ran 2 miles today. I'm starting to train for the Riverbank 25K already. And the whole point of me blogging this is so that people can remind me..."hey, weren't you training? You're still doing that, right?"

And since Maggie is acting flippin' crazy, as she sprints around the house, I guess I have no choice but to have another running partner!

I also saw this picture on Facebook from my alma mater. (This street was nicknamed "Devils Backbone", and I always thought people were dummies for running on it). But this explains my love for fall and helped motivate me today.

What do you think?

I'm thankful that each day is a new beginning!

5 Months!

No, we don't have any children, but we treat our pets as if they are children. Therefore, here are Maggie's 5 month pictures!

34 pounds now and still snoring as loudly as ever!

Look how much she has grown since we got her...

(It's easier to see the difference when she's next to a person)

We absolutely love her (and Luna)!
